Planting Seeds of Intention

"The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

It has been quite some time since I have written a blog entry and I was inspired to write one on this beautiful sunny day.  The subject of this blog is one of my favorites to talk about in yoga classes, as seed planting and caring for those seeds is a metaphor for our life's intentions, goals, aspirations, etc.

Looking at a tiny seed, we see that most seeds are somewhat similar in size, all small to start, however there is a copious amount of sizes these seeds will transform into.  This tiny seed may manifest into a small flower or the tiny seed may be manifested as a huge tree.  Our intentions may start itself out as a single thought inside our heads that can manifest into a small, short term goal, or the intention may manifest itself into a life long dream.  No matter what kind of seed we choose to plant, it is important to realize that all of the ingredients to make this seed grow are contained inside us.  Think back to that tiny seed of a tree...the blueprint for growth is written in the genetic code of the seed.  It just needs the proper environmental conditions to blossom into its abundant nature.  The same is true for our seeds of intention.

If the environmental conditions for a seed to grow are sunlight, water, soil, proper temperature, etc, then ask yourself what are the conditions for your seeds to grow?  One of my favorite quotes from the yogic scriptures is, "As you think so you become."  So, if we can think of an intention we know it is possible to become that intention.  It just needs proper nourishment, nurturing, cultivation, and care.  You are the farmer of these seeds (or if you prefer gardener you can be that too hehe).  If the farmer/gardener plants the seed in the earth, starts to water it daily and then all of a sudden forgets about it because other life situations steer him away farming then it wont grow.  Sounds like the farmer version of a new year's resolution!  Perhaps you have intentions you planted in the past and started to take the steps to manifest the intention.  A life roadblock may have distracted you or perhaps you lost interest and faith in yourself to let this intention become a reality.  Most likely, the intention did not grow on its own without you working towards it.  However, the good news is that even though that seed may be dormant, you can come back to it and start the germination process.

Any farmer or gardener knows that their crops/garden does not grow over night.  It could take months to harvest those seeds and patience is key.  We must be diligent and disciplined in our effort to grow these seeds, and be patient with our efforts.  No amount of hard work will be a waste...it will grow in time.

So my dear friends, I ask you the question of what seeds of intention would you like to plant this spring?  Or if not a new seed, than what seed may have been planted and needs to be awakened?  After all, it is the season of rebirth, growth, and expansion.  Spring is a perfect time to let your seeds come to fruition!  Happy gardening!!!

With happiness,
Julie
