A Post Thanksgiving Message...

Image
Thanksgiving’s Message Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays growing up and now that I am adult I can say that it is my favorite holiday.   When I was a child I liked it most because I loved watching the Macys Thanksgiving Day parade in the morning, while my mom would be preparing the meal.   I can still viscerally connect with the feeling of anticipation of family coming as I watched the parade balloons, Rockettes, and musical numbers of the current Broadway shows.   The Thanksgiving meal is always good and we all have our traditional favorites (please more sweet potato casserole with marshmallows)!   But it’s not necessarily the traditional foods that have so much sentiment, but the intention and symbolism behind putting together a thanksgiving meal.   When you think of turkey, stuffing, string bean casserole, and pumpkin pie, you think of Thanksgiving and the memories associated with it.   Personally whenever I have a similar meal that is not on Tha

The Moonlit Self

Image
I write this to you underneath the glowing full moon, whose brightness is the inspiration behind this post. The moon itself is just one element in nature, it is a single element.  We do not have 4,5, 6, 7,etc  moons shining on us to get more light, instead we have just one that gives us all that we need.  When the moon is covered by clouds, the world is a bit darker.  We, as beings, are the same way.... We each exist as a single self, and this single self is all we get.  Just as we can't manufacture another moon, we cannot manufacture another unique self.  You see how the single moon lights up the sky?  Well each of us can do that too.  We all have that infinite amount of light inside, that glow, that magnificence, that splendid beauty that no words can truly convey our life's potency.  The moon doesn't ask to have more, it doesn't judge itself when it is only a quarter of itself, it doesn't even get upset when there are clouds that cover it up because it is

Mind/Body Roadtrip

Image
I started out a class last week at Gold's Gym, asking the students for suggests on where to lead our yoga road trip looking for a theme that the class was interested in.  Shoulder-Land, Hip World, Balance Island, etc, which then sparked the whole theme of the class of how our practice on the mat is very much like a road trip you would take in your car.  And this put the key in the ignition for a imaginative class, as I was trying to think of as many road trip metaphors as possible... Well, getting on your mat is like getting in your car ready for the journey ahead.  The beauty of a yoga practice is that we do not have a destination to get to, just driving on the open road with no where specific to go.  Similar to the feeling when you get in your car and just feel like driving.  We begin to utilize our fuel source, our breath, in order to get us on the road...even if we just sit in the car for a bit without driving anywhere.   Then we begin to move...depending on the "

Welcome Back-Inner Work Out

Image
I'm back! Well, dear friends it has been quite some time since I have last visited this blog, and after a long hiatus I feel it is time to start up again.  Most of you know I highly enjoy sharing inspirational quotes on Facebook or in my yoga classes, and this blog is an extension of that.  My intention is to not only share quotes, but to share thoughts on life.  And I shall start with this one.... Inner Working Out After teaching at Golds Gym today, I was engaging in my usual long two hour work out routine.  I was amongst many other fellow gym go-ers from heavy weight lifters, to treadmill runners, to lighter workout ladies.  All of a sudden I had a change in perspective as I watched the people around me working out so diligently and ferociously.  Everyone seemed like they were under some fitness spell, doing their bicep curls, overhead presses, squats, etc.  In a constant motion of flexing and extending, pushing and straining, grunting and growling.  I was in
